LEADING FURNITURE EXPERT TO TALK AT RIPON CIVIC SOCIETY

Ripon Civic Society will welcome one of the country’s leading experts on English furniture to give a talk on Thursday 5 May.
Dr Adam Bowett is an independent furniture historian and works as a consultant on historic English furniture with public institutions, including the National Trust, English Heritage and the Victoria and Albert Museum, and with private clients in both Britain and North America. He teaches furniture history at universities and other institutions, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, Buckinghamshire New University and West Dean College.
He is chairman of The Chippendale Society and a director of the National Centre for Early Furniture and Art, based at Swinton Castle. He is the author of three books on English furniture – ‘English Furniture from Charles II to Queen Anne’, ‘Early Georgian Furniture’ and ‘British Furniture Woods 1400-1900’, editor of ‘100 British Chairs’ and writer of numerous academic papers and articles on the history of furniture.
Ripon Civic Society’s talks are run jointly with Ripon Historical Society. David Winpenny, Chairman of Ripon Civic Society, says, ‘We are delighted to welcome Dr Bowett to Ripon to talk about furniture in the North of England. His reputation as one of the leading experts on English furniture is well-known, and we look forward with great anticipation to his talk for the Society.’
Everyone is welcome to the talk, which takes place at 7.30 pm on Thursday 5 May at Allhallowgate Methodist Church Hall, Victoria Grove, Ripon. Guests are welcome - there is a charge of £3.00 for non-members.
