CIVIC SOCIETY MAKES DONATION TO MUSEUMS TRUST
18th March 2008
Ripon Civic Society has made a donation to the future development of the Ripon Workhouse Museum, thanks to a bequest from one of its members.
The Society’s Executive Committee agreed to make the substantial donation at its recent meeting, in recognition of the work that Ripon Museums Trust has done in establishing the Workhouse, Police and Prison and Courthouse Museums, and to assist the Trust in its future plans. Ripon Museums Trust was set up in 1981 under the auspices of Ripon Civic Society.
A generous bequest to the Civic Society from one of its former members has enabled the donation to be made. David Winpenny, Co-Chairman of the Society, says, ‘The further development of the Workhouse Museum will benefit the city, and is very much in keeping with the aims of the Civic Society. In conjunction with the grant just announced for the Museum from the Heritage Lottery Fund, our donation will help to unlock further sums from other sources. We are pleased once again to be able to help with an enterprise that brings tourists and income to the city, as well as providing an insight into the city’s past.’
