CIVIC SOCIETY’S AWARDS TO BE PRESENTED
22nd September 2009
Good design and craftsmanship will be rewarded at a ceremony in Ripon’s Spa Hotel on Thursday 1 October when Ripon Civic Society presents its annual awards.
The Civic Society Awards are presented in a range of categories for new buildings and for restoration, for environmental improvement, for craftsmanship and the best shop front. Projects have to have been completed within the year that ended in April to be eligible.
From the winners the Society chooses one to be awarded the prestigious Helen Whitehead Salver. There is also a new award, ‘The John Whitehead Award’, presented for the first time last year for any project, group, organisation or individual who has made an outstanding contribution to any aspect of Ripon that comes within the Civic Society’s remit. Both Dr John Whitehead and his wife Helen were active and influential members of Ripon Civic Society.
The winners of the awards, and of projects that have been Highly Commended and Commended, will be announced at the Awards Ceremony. It will be attended by civic dignitaries and representatives of the winners. Members of the public are welcome to attend; there is no charge. The event begins at 7.30 pm.
David Winpenny, Chairman of Ripon Civic Society says, ‘Our annual Awards Ceremony is one of the highlights of the year. It recognises the companies, groups and individuals who have contributed in a positive and sensitive way to the city. The awards are always appreciated by those who receive them, and we hope they will encourage others to strive to make Ripon an even better place in which to live.’
