WENSLEYDALE RAILWAY SUBJECT OF SOCIETY’S NEXT TALK
24th August 2010
Ripon Civic Society’s meeting after the summer break will be on Thursday 2 September, when Ruth Annison will talk about ‘The Wensleydale Railway’.
One of the leading players in getting the railway line through the Dales restored and re-opened for passengers, Mrs Annison will talk about the line’s history, its current operations and the future plans, which should see the line finally linking into Northallerton and, eventually, extending to the Settle-Carlisle line at Garsdale.
The meeting takes place at Allhallowgate Methodist Church Hall in Victoria Grove, Ripon, and starts at 7.30pm. Non-members are welcome, and pay £2.00 for the evening.
David Winpenny, Chairman of Ripon Civic Society, says, ‘The Wensleydale Railway is our nearest ‘heritage line’, and we are looking forward to hearing about its pleasures and of the hard work that has gone into its restoration.’
• The meeting in October is the Society’s Annual Awards Ceremony. It takes place on Thursday 7 October at the Spa Hotel, beginning with a drinks reception from 7.00pm.
