CIVIC SOCIETY HELPS FRENCH INTERN WITH RESEARCH
1st November 2011
Ripon Civic Society has played host to French business studies graduate Maxime Giboulot to help with his research into the state of Yorkshire high streets and into the health of the civic societies movement.
Maxime, a graduate of the University of Besançon in eastern France, is spending 13 weeks working for the Yorkshire and Humber Association of Civic Societies (YHACS) as an intern. He has visited many of the civic societies in the region, and was in Ripon to hear about the city from the chairman of Ripon Civic Society, David Winpenny.
‘He asked me about the state of the shopping area in Ripon, and whether it was reviving or declining,’ says David. ‘He was also interested to hear about the Civic Society’s membership and the work that we do in and around the city. I also took him on a tour of the city to see its attractions and some of its problems, so he has a balanced view.’
Maxime will provide his interim findings at a meeting of YHACS on Saturday in Beverley, which six members of Ripon Civic Society will attend. The guest speaker at the meeting is The Rt Hon Eric Pickles MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government.
