HIDDEN GARDENS TALK TO START CIVIC SOCIETY’S NEW YEAR
23rd December 2013
The first 2014 talk in Ripon Civic Society’s series takes place on Thursday 2 January, when Tony Cleaver will speak on ‘Hidden Gardens of London’.
His talk looks at some of the more than 200 London gardens that are open to the public in an annual Open Gardens Weekend. They include historic private squares, roof gardens above department stores, gardens around churches and cathedrals such as Westminster Abbey, in the Inns of Court, and even floating gardens on barges on the river.
David Winpenny, Chairman of Ripon Civic Society, says, ‘What better way to start the New Year than with a look at some attractive and colourful gardens? Tony’s talk will take us to some unexpected and out-of-the-way places, and show just how fantastic gardens can be made in sometimes unpromising locations. ’
Everyone is welcome to the talk, which takes place at 7.30 pm on Thursday 2 January at Allhallowgate Methodist Church Hall, Victoria Grove, Ripon. There is a charge of £3.00 for anyone who is not a Civic Society member.
