One of the world’s top architectural metalworkers, whose projects are found in places such as York Minster, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, The Royal Hospital at Chelsea and Stirling Castle, is to give the next talk to Ripon Civic Society, on Thursday 1 May.

Chris Topp, whose firm Chris Topp & Co is based at Tholthorpe near Easingwold, will speak on ‘Adventures with Ironwork’. Chris has 35 years’ experience in the traditional skills and techniques of ironwork, which the company continues to develop and to apply to the contemporary environment. Its specialist division, The Real Wrought Iron Company, is the only supplier of genuine wrought iron in the world and a world authority on its production and use. Chris is chairman and founder member of the National Heritage Ironwork Group, a voluntary body dedicated to the establishment of historic wrought ironwork as a true conservation medium. Chris Topp & Co Ltd employs a number of expert ironworkers and he is keen to ensure the survival of the blacksmiths’ skills in the field of ironwork conservation.

David Winpenny, Chairman of Ripon Civic Society, says, ‘We are very fortunate to have Chris Topp to speak to the Society and give an insight into the wonderful metalwork that his company supplies to so many prestigious clients.’

Everyone is welcome to the talk, which takes place at 7.30 pm on Thursday 1 May at Allhallowgate Methodist Church Hall, Victoria Grove, Ripon. There is a charge of £3.00 for anyone who is not a Civic Society member.
