CIVIC SOCIETY’S AWARDS TO BE PRESENTED
22nd September 2014
Awards for projects in and around Ripon will be handed out at Ripon Civic Society’s Annual Awards ceremony on Thursday 2 October – after a two-year gap since the last event.
The Awards, which include prizes for good design and craftsmanship, will be presented at a ceremony in Ripon’s Spa Hotel. The Civic Society recognises good practice in a range of categories, including new buildings and restoration, environmental improvement, craftsmanship and the best shop front. Projects for the awards this year have to have been completed within the last two years to be eligible.
Representatives from the short-listed projects will gather on 2 October to hear who has won, been Highly Commended and Commended. From the winners the Society chooses one to be awarded the prestigious ‘Helen Whitehead Salver’, while ‘The John Whitehead Award’ is for any project, group, organisation or individual making an outstanding contribution to an aspect of Ripon that comes within the Civic Society’s remit. Both Dr John Whitehead and his wife Helen were active and influential members of Ripon Civic Society.
The Awards Ceremony will be attended by civic dignitaries and representatives of the winners. The event begins at 7.30 pm; wine is served from 7.00 pm.
David Winpenny, Chairman of Ripon Civic Society says, ‘Our annual Awards Ceremony is one of the highlights of the year; last year we considered that there were too few projects for us to hold the awards; this year there are many more, so it promises to be a good evening, in which we recognise the companies, groups and individuals who have contributed in a positive and sensitive way to the city. The awards are always appreciated by those who receive them, and we hope they will encourage others to strive to make Ripon an even better place in which to live. The event is open to everyone – do come along and see who’s won what!’
